Description: APC Precision Stains are acid based solutions that form a chemical reaction with minerals in concrete or other cementitious products. When in contact with cement, rich oxides of varying hues and tones of beautiful colors are achieved. Properly maintained, APC Precision Stains are very durable and the colors will last as long as the concrete surface on which it is applied. All concrete floors will contain varying amounts of minerals resulting in mottled and unique colorations on the same floor. No two floors will look alike. It is recommended to test a small inconspicuous area so that you can determine if the look meets your desired appearance.
***CAUTION ACID***
ALWAYS POUR ACID INTO WATER NEVER POUR WATER INTO ACID APPLY STAIN IN A WELL VENTILATED SPACE WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, EYEWEAR AND RUBBER GLOVES CALL PHYSICIAN IF SWALLOWED OR IN CONTACT WITH EYES KEEP A SOLUTION OF 1LB BAKING SODA IN 5 GALLONS WATER CLOSE TO JOB, IN CASE OF PERSONAL CONTACT WITH ACID ALL APPLICATION TOOLS AND VESSELS MUST BE COMPOSED OF 100% PLASTIC

INSTRUCTIONS: THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP IN A PROJECT IS PREPARATION OF THE SURFACE. It is recommended that the concrete be at least four weeks old, clean, and free of sealers or debris that can impede the stain. All previous sealers, paints, adhesives and coatings must be stripped and removed. Do not clean the surface with muriatic acid. This will destroy the important minerals necessary to produce the color range selected. It is recommended to use APC Precision Clean & Etch to clean and pre-etch the surface to ensure adequate stain penetration. Thoroughly rinse the surface. Do not let the pre-etch dry on the surface. It will leave a white residue that can only be removed with a dilute solution of phosphoric acid.

Test a small inconspicuous area of less than one square foot allowing 4 hours to cure. Wash area and view while wet to determine if desired color has been achieved. Check for bubbling action to ensure chemical reaction. If not, the surface may be contaminated and stain will not take unless the contaminant is completely removed. Test to be sure concrete is compatible. Over-troweled or burned black concrete should be etched prior to application with APC Precision Clean & Etch. Test for water seep by taping plastic on one square foot of floor. Remove plastic the following day. If floor is wet, you should not stain and seal floor.

Coverage is dependent on the age, porosity, weather and composition of the concrete. An exact coverage rate cannot be determined because every scenario is different. For general calculations, estimate 200 square feet per gallon coverage rate. You should visually survey the area to be stained to determine the pattern of application. This should be based on traffic patterns and how the surface will be viewed. Try to avoid dry laps where wet stain overlaps with dry stain. Dry laps will cause visible lines and should be minimized or planned for non-visible places. If test area color is too dark, you can dilute APC Precision Acid Stain with up to 20% water to obtain the color intensity desired. If darker color is desired, you can also apply a second coat. To apply a second coat, allow to dry for four hours. Do not remove residue. Apply directly on top. After all coats have been applied, allow to dry for four hours. Wash thoroughly with neutralizer. A good neutralizer is 1lb baking soda to 5 gallons water. Excess water must be mopped up or wet-vac. Be sure concrete is completely free of residue. You should expect to rinse with clean water 4 or more times. To test the readiness of the concrete, once dry take a dry white cloth and wipe the surface. If residue is present, rinse, clean and allow to dry again. Repeat process until no residue is present.

Allow 24 hours for the surface to dry, Make sure to apply two coats of APC Precision Clear Seal to provide long lasting durability and enhanced color. Solvent based clear sealers enhance the depth of color and should be tested before application. Prevent traffic on the surface for 72 hours or until the surface is completely dried. On interior applications, apply APC Precision Wax Polish. Our mop down wax can be touched-up very easily and will protect the sealer and maintain its beauty. Three initial coats of wax is a good starting point with touch-ups as needed. Keep the surface broom clean and mop with clean water.

***TIPS FOR APPLICATION***

Using all plastic sprayer, apply stain. Test small area to be stained for compatibility. Take all precautions to assure that stain does not come in contact with materials not to be stained.

Allow stain to dry for four hours. Apply second coat if needed. Do not wash between coats. Allow stain to cure overnight.

After overnight cure, sweep off surface residue, dispose properly as it still may contain acid compounds.

Neutralize the surface. A good neutralizer, 1lb baking soda to 5 gallon water.

After neutralized, thoroughly flood the surface with water. Mop up or wet-vac excess water from the surface. Repeat until completely clean of stain residue.
